Hsiao-Wei Wang announced today that she is stepping down as co-executive director and board member of the Ethereum Ethereum Foundation, effective immediately, following a sabbatical period.

What's the Scoop?

  • The Departure: Wang, who joined the EF's research team in 2017 and rose to co-ED in April 2025, said her sabbatical gave her space to reflect on her priorities and that stepping back now feels like the right call. She noted that she plans to spend more time closer to home while remaining part of the broader Ethereum community.
  • Her Legacy: Over roughly nine years with the EF, Wang was a core contributor to some of Ethereum's most consequential upgrades, including the Beacon Chain, The Merge, Shapella, and Dencun. She also co-founded ETHTaipei and the Taipei Seminar, helping cultivate one of Ethereum's strongest regional communities.
  • Vitalik's Send-Off: In a post responding to the news, Vitalik called Wang a "steadfast contributor" and said she "handled the task skillfully and gracefully" during what he described as one of the most challenging stretches in EF history.
  • Leadership Context: Wang's exit continues a notable pattern of high-profile EF departures over the past year. Co-ED Tomasz Stańczak stepped down in February, followed by resignations from Josh Stark, Trent Van Epps, Tim Beiko, Barnabé Monnot, Carl Beek, and Julian Ma, among others. Bastian Aue, who took over from Stańczak as interim co-ED, leads the organization as the sole ED for now.
