NEAR is a decentralized platform built on a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. It aims to enhance scalability through its innovative sharded architecture, Nightshade, and a unique block generation scheme, Doomslug.
Launched by the NEAR Foundation, its mainnet went live in April 2020, with token transfers enabled by October 2020. Developed for developer and user convenience, NEAR simplifies application development and improves user onboarding.
The platform also integrates the Rainbow Bridge to Ethereum, which was introduced in March 2021.
