Morpho CEO Paul Frambot Paul Frambot announced today that Morpho Midnight, the project's long-awaited fixed-rate, fixed-term lending protocol, will exit its months-long beta and launch publicly "in the coming days."

What's the Scoop?

  • Paradigm Paradigm shift: Frambot framed Midnight as the third wave of onchain lending: first-gen protocols set risk, rate, and term for users; Morpho Blue externalized risk to vault curators; and Midnight now hands all three to the open market. Lenders and borrowers trade toward market-set fixed rates with real maturity dates, which is the duration dimension that DeFi has largely lacked to date.
  • A modest arrival: The launch will start with a single market on one chain, cbBTC/USDC on Base Base (currently Morpho Blue's largest market) across multiple maturities. There will be no vault adapter, no auto-rolling, no gates, and no crosschain support to start, with participation limited to direct lenders and borrowers while the code gets stress-tested in live conditions.
  • New flagship feature: "Multi-market offers" go live day one, letting liquidity providers quote across any number of isolated markets simultaneously without fragmenting their capital. This is Midnight's answer to the liquidity-splintering problem that hobbled earlier fixed-rate attempts.
  • The roadmap: Coming rollout phases will include the vault adapter (opening billions in Morpho Vaults liquidity to fixed-rate quoting), more chains and collateral types, auto-rolling for treasuries, compliance gates, APIs, and more.
  • Zooming out: Variable rates were fine for degens, but institutions run on terms. If Midnight works, DeFi will get a native yield curve, and with it, the ability to express the credit structures (think fixed-income products, term financing, even repo-like designs) that make up most of TradFi's action.
