World open-sources ProveKit, letting users prove identity claims like age or nationality without exposing their personal data.
The Block reported World open-sourced ProveKit today, its zero-knowledge toolkit for proving identity claims without exposing the personal information behind them.
What’s the scoop?
- Prove Identity Without Sharing Data: ProveKit is a toolkit for proving claims like age, nationality, or ownership of a valid ID without revealing the underlying personal data. Verifiers only receive confirmation that the specific claim is true.
- Proofs Stay on Your Device: Unlike systems that send sensitive information to outside servers, ProveKit generates proofs locally on users' phones or browsers. World says this keeps the underlying identity data inaccessible to World Foundation, Tools for Humanity, and other third parties.
- Built for Developers: ProveKit has been in development for roughly two years, supports Aztec's Noir programming language, and is designed to run on normal consumer hardware. World says proofs can be generated in seconds on a typical phone and in under 30 seconds on a lower-end device.
- Onchain Verification Coming: While ProveKit v1 primarily optimized for offchain verification, World is already developing ProveKit v2, which is expected to reduce proof sizes, proving times, and memory usage while making onchain verification more efficient.
