NEAR Protocol just introduced Universal Send, a new feature on near.com that lets users pay anyone in any asset across any chain and with transactions confidential by default.
What's the Scoop?
- How It Works: This new resource lets you scan a QR code and pay with whatever assets you hold. Under the hood, Universal Send handles the swap and routing automatically so the recipient gets the asset they want, regardless of what the sender started with. One confirmation, and no manual bridging needed.
- Privacy by Default: Transactions run confidentially, thus wallet activity isn't exposed in the process. NEAR frames this element as part of their efforts to bring Zcash's confidential payments philosophy into crosschain contexts.
- Built on NEAR Intents: Universal Send is a product extension of NEAR Intents, the crosschain interoperability system that has now facilitated over $18 billion in cumulative volume. Intents handles the routing and settlement layer that makes the one-click crosschain UX possible.
Zooming Out
Universal Send joins near.com's existing suite of swap, yield, and P2P private deal features. The platform's roadmap also points toward AI-assisted financial management, tokenized real-world assets, and virtual bank accounts, making Universal Send less a standalone feature than a new convenient layer in the NEAR stack.
