Ethereum Ethereum developers charting the network’s 2026 roadmap have come to consensus that “Hegota” shall be the upgrade to follow “Glamsterdam.”

What's the Scoop?

  • Next Upgrade: During the final All Core Developers Execution (ACDE) call of 2025, "Hegota" was selected to be the name for the upgrade following "Glamsterdam," Ethereum’s next major upgrade. Glamsterdam is expected to be ship within the first half of 2026, with Hegota likely to fall later in the year.
  • Naming Convention: Ethereum upgrades names are created using a combination of Devcon host cities and stars. Hegota is derived from execution layer upgrade "Bogota" (city) and consensus layer upgrade "Heze" (star).
  • Unclear Scope: Neither the Glamsterdam or Hegota upgrades are finalized. Developers hope to establish Glamsterdam's complete scope at their next meeting on January 5, and are not expected to announce a headline EIP for Hegota until February. Potential Hegota upgrades may include: deferred items from Galmsterdam; state and history expiry mechanisms; and additional execution-layer optimizations.
