# Ethereum Bonds | Weekly Recap *Author: Ryan Sean Adams* *Published: May 1, 2021* *Source: https://www.bankless.com/ethereum-bonds-weekly-recap* --- Dear Bankless Nation, European Investment Bank (EIB) [announced earlier this week](https://www.coindesk.com/european-investment-bank-issues-121m-digital-notes-using-ethereum) that they’re issuing $121M in digital bonds on Ethereum. This is the official lending arm of the European Union—a significant quasi government institution electing to distribute digital bonds to investors on Ethereum. Institutions are starting to realize the benefit of Ethereum. They’re waking up to the the value of a global, open, internet-native settlement layer. I say this the same week [Visa announced](https://www.theblockcrypto.com/linked/103048/visa-ceo-crypto-earnings-call-comments) that they’re going to move into crypto “*in a very big way*” and the [PayPal CEO said](https://time.com/5957001/paypal-cryptocurrencty-bitcoin-dan-schulman/) “*crypto is the real deal*”. Meanwhile ETH is pushing to new ATHs every day.
